It is a great pleasure to invite you to the Annual Meeting of the India Knowledge Consortium (INK), a gathering of scholars, researchers, and practitioners united by a shared commitment to advancing research on the applications of Indian knowledge systems and the wisdom traditions.

This year’s meeting is themed Contemporary Applications of Dharmic Wisdom. In an era of accelerating change, deepening polarisation, and an urgent search for meaning, the Dharmic knowledge and traditions of India, encompassing philosophy, ethics, governance, ecology, and the arts, offer highly useful insights for their contemporary applications. The meeting will bring together INK members for an afternoon of focused dialogue, collaborative reflection, and collective planning.

The afternoon will open with a keynote address, followed by facilitated roundtable discussions on themes drawn from INK’s research priorities with an aim to produce research and/or policy outputs. Members will also have an opportunity to hear brief presentations on INK’s plans for the coming year and contribute their ideas for the Consortium’s future direction.

The ancient dictum Saa Vidyaa Yaa Vimuktaye (Education is that which liberates) serves as the radical anchor for a revitalised Bharatiya educational framework. Moving beyond purely eschatological or “other-worldly” interpretations, this principle suggests that true Vidya facilitates the systematic liberation of human consciousness from the inherent limitations of our physical, vital, and mental instruments.

In this context, the goal of education is the perfection of the learner: refining the physical being to manifest Beauty and Harmony, transforming the vital being toward purity and power, and honing mental faculties for manifesting the true knowledge. This is achieved through antarmukhikarana (inwardisation), a process that aligns the outer instruments of learning with the inner divinity, or Atman. By centring the curriculum on the Upanishadic injunction Atmanam Viddhi (Know Thyself), we move away from modern rote learning toward a sophisticated psycho-spiritual mechanism of knowledge transmission. Ultimately, this liberatory pedagogy seeks to restore the sacred alignment between the knower, the known, and the process of knowing.

Dr. Venkata Chaganti is a physicist, educator, Vedic scholar, and founder of the University of Applied Vedic Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Georgia State University, USA (2015), where his research focused on the optical and electrical properties of quantum dots. Prior to his doctoral work, he earned an M.S. from the University of Texas at El Paso and a B.E. in Engineering from Osmania University, India. As an educator, Dr. Chaganti taught undergraduate physics (both classroom and laboratory courses) in multiple U.S. colleges for over a decade.

Beyond modern science, Dr. Chaganti is deeply engaged in Vedic scholarship and research spanning more than 30 years. He has independently studied core Indian philosophical and scriptural texts, including the Vedas, Upanishads, Darshanas, Puranas, and epic literature. He explores intersections between ancient knowledge and modern science, including projects aimed at environmental applications of Vedic yajnas to address issues such as air pollution, storms, hurricanes, COVID-like situations, etc.
